Instagram is bringing higher-quality photos to Android

Instagram viewing from your Android device is about to get a lot better. Maybe.

Announced on Twitter, Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger has tweeted that photos shared on the app will now be uploaded at a resolution of 1080×1080, as opposed to the 640×640 resolution that’s been used for years now, 640×640. While higher resolutions don’t always mean better quality, more than doubling the pixels will theoretically make a large difference. However, once filters and compression is applied, the difference might not be that big after all. We’ll just have to see how it turns out.

Be on the lookout for higher-resolution and higher-quality photos in your Instagram feed soon. Next up on Instagram’s checklist: revamp the app icon. Please. We’re begging you.
